So why is age a significant factor to development of hidey holes & cavities for our fury and feathered friends? The most common factor is storm events.

Yes that’s right, storm impact creates wounds and breakages that later turn into habitat holes and cavities. But trees are tough and evolutionally designed to weather storm events well. Generally, it is tree defects, growth anomalies, predatory pathogen attacks that weaken tree parts.

There are times when the only solution is to remove a tree. Usually, due to a significant defect that cannot be mitigated, or simply, there is no longer suitable space to retain.
