How do trees make habitat hollows all by themselves

Did you know that Sunshine Coast trees (like most Australia forest trees) generally reach habitat potential at approximately 70 years of age. This can vary, depending on species. So why is age a significant factor to development of hidey holes & cavities for our fury and feathered friends? The most common factor is storm events.

Yes that’s right, storm impact creates wounds and breakages that later turn into habitat holes and cavities. But trees are tough and evolutionally designed to weather storm events well. Generally, it is tree defects, growth anomalies, predatory pathogen attacks that weaken tree parts.

Enter our blog plug now…these defects can also develop in the trees we live around. Thinking you would like to know how safe your trees are? We are here to provide fantastic advice and fully qualified to come check your trees. Check out our reviews on google maps. Search Treefix on maps and scroll down to reviews. Ok back to the interesting stuff.

There are times when the only solution is to remove a tree. Usually, due to a significant defect that cannot be mitigated, or simply, there is no longer suitable space to retain. In either case, it is important to consider our native habitat during the process. At Tree Fix we are committed to checking for wildlife that may be using the tree first.

A few cool things we do. Using cameras on cords to check deep into hollows, helps us located wildlife that require protecting. Sometimes we need to postpone work during nesting season to give fledglings a chance to grow and learn to fly in nature.

We at Tree Fix are committed to giving back and supporting our staff in a range of nature conservation activities. Installing nest boxes and habitat homes, assisting with Flying fox roost management, rescue of birds trapped in trees by string or line entanglements, and much more. Many of our team actively care for young injured or orphan wildlife and we support this with time and providing 4x4 vehicles when it comes time to release back, deep into the forest.

A big thank you to all the team and to you at home, growing and caring for plants and trees that our wildlife friends need to get around.

Have a great day
